NEWS & UPDATESNEW ENGLAND COLLEGE One of a handful of new modern colleges recently established, NEW ENGLAND COLLEGE (NEC) was conceived and planned by a group of ambitious and determined investors in education sometime late 2003, headed by an outstanding M.A. Education Management graduate from the University of the Philippines. In response to the need for truly, globally competent graduates in the disciplines of health care, information and I.T., education and business administration to meet worldwide demands for professionals from these fields, Mrs. Norma Ching, the U.P. alumnae & president of a chain of Early Achievers Learning Centers & the De Novo Development Center for special children, together with Mr. Henry Wong, co-founder of H&D Information Technology Incorporated, Spartan Education Management, Inc., and The Elegant Kindergarten (Guangzhou, China), then decided to establish NEC to make a difference in career-oriented education. N.E.C. opened its door in June 2005, a week after government permits were granted, offered the following four-year courses: Bachelor of Science in Nursing; Bachelor in Secondary Education major in English; Bachelor in Elementary Education – Special Education (SPED); B.S. in Information Technology; B.S. in Computer Science; B.S. in Business Administration major in Management; B.S. in Customs Administration; and TESDA courses for: Caregiver, English Proficiency Program, Associate Degree in Nursing, Medical Transcription, Call Center Finishing, Certified Bookkeeping, and Flight Attendant. The college is now on its way to greater heights in the delivery of world-class, globally competitive education, what with more students enrolled even up to year three in B.S. Nursing. VISION AND MISSION What was once acorn is now growing to become an oak. With its vision of being a centre of excellence in tertiary level education particularly in nursing, NEC commits to offer productive environment conducive to successful research, and a mission to produce highly competitive graduates who will be work-oriented, outward-looking, nationalistic and values oriented. N.E.C. is fully supported by the “ICT” of education. The above-mentioned (I) institutional facilities that visitors admire are proofs of commitment to provide the best to its students. (C) Curricula have been upgraded and aligned to course offerings of colleges and universities in America and Western Europe. Since the (T) teachers/faculty is the heart and soul in the delivery of education, only the most qualified, English-speaking faculty members are hired to teach their subjects of specialization. Of the present 16 faculty members or 25 percent hold doctoral degrees, 12.5 percent finished doctoral units, 50 percent of them are master’s degree holders, and the remaining 12.5 percent members are taking M.A. units. Development, indeed, is ongoing for even a better New England College.
New England College signs partnership with Shenyang Bohui Educational Training CenterNew England College (NEC) officially partnered with Shenyang Bohui Educational Training Center (SBETC) last May 2007 for their Joint Nursing Program. This joint nursing program was created with the purpose of helping Mainland Chinese students complete a tertiary course either through (a) the regular B.S. Nursing program offered by NEC where students receive diplomas upon finishing the program there, or (b) the 2 years + 2½ years joint program offered respectively by NEC and Liberty University (LU) of Lynchburg, Virginia, USA, to which the Chinese students will transfer from NEC, and where they would eventually receive a US diploma upon completion of the program. SBETC will be in charge of the screening, pre-departure English training and the admission procedures of Mainland Chinese students who wish to enroll in NEC for either of the above Nursing Programs. Through these Nursing Programs, Chinese students will have an unrivaled educational experience as they are exposed to different cultures and educational systems. Moreover, their chances of securing permanent work abroad, especially when they avail of the 2 + 2 ½ program are significantly increased as LU will help arrange for a one year on-the-job training in a US hospital right after graduation. Students from China are also welcome to take up regular CHED-sanctioned B.S.Nursing program in NEC. Starting 2008, NEC begins to offer 1-year and 2-year Hospitality Management programs with internationally accredited and patented curricula from the American Hotel & Lodging Association - Education Institute (AHLA-EI). Those who accomplish the 2-year course will receive the status equivalent to an Associate Degree in B.S. Hospitality Management in the US.
The signing of the Memorandum of Agreement for this partnership (see photos above) was conducted by Mrs. Norma O. Ching (center), President and Chairman of the Board of NEC, and Mr. Li Jing Fang (center), Director of SBETC. The signing was witnessed by Mr. Wang Lu, the Assistant Director of SBETC (second from right), and three other officials from NEC and SBETC. NEC was inaugurated in 2005, and in the past 3 years, its board members have visited Mainland China, Hong Kong and Korea, diligently linking up NEC with prestigious foreign education institutions, as well as inviting foreign students to its various academic programs. (See photo below of Certificate of Approval to Accept Foreign Students)
NEC has an accreditation from the Philippines’ Commission on Higher Education for its nursing program and other B.S. program offerings. (see photo below of Certification for B.S. Nursing)
